As much as we love Fresh Flowers on Wedding Cakes we need to be extremely careful as to what Flowers we put on the cake. Just because it is Organic it does not make it OK to put the flower on a Wedding Cake or any Food item for that matter. Below is a link about the Beautiful Peony. Brides love them, photos of Peonies are on wedding cakes all over Pinterest, Facebook and the Internet... but you must remember that most of these cakes that you fall in love with are from a STYLIZED photo shoot and the cakes more then likely are dummy cakes with flowers placed on them and no one would ever eat them. There just for a photo. Gorgeous design and style YES... But it is just an idea for you. Trend setting in the World. Artists presenting their wedding ideas to you. I always ask brides to bring in their favorite wedding cake photos to get a feel for their design style to our tasting/design sessions. This helps us create a sketch for their own personal wedding cake. What happens is the Bride brings in the photo with the fresh Peony on her cake... and then I must educate them...  You JUST CAN NOT do this. I have been trying to educate Photographers and Florists about putting Peonies on wedding cakes don't do it! No one listens. Beautiful YES, will it make you sick YES. Please read the below link from e-how about Peonies and do your own Google Search and view the list below from Wikipedia ... you can read about just a few of the poisonous flowers.

Be very careful as to what flowers you put on your wedding cake. Fresh Roses are lovely, or have me make sugar Peonies or even wafer paper Peonies.... but please, please be careful do not take the chance and making your guests ill. Just my two cents.  Do your homework Brides and Grooms since I make the cakes I do not want your guests to become ill. If you must put on fresh flowers, remember they must be grown in the US, pesticide free and not poisonous. When I arrive at your wedding and the Beautiful Flowers are there waiting for me to put them on your cake and I am not sure if the flower is ok to put on your cake I will certainly Google the flower while at the venue... and if it is safe then I will put the flower on the cake... and if not.... sorry I will not put it on. I will only use the safe flowers. Thanks for reading... Have a lovely day... Seri

The view was AMAZING right along the Columbia River on a perfect sunny day.

Reception at Columbia gorge hotel

As a cake artist I was honored to be a part of this Vintage Themed Wedding. I partnered with the talented Liz Marek to complete the whole piece. Liz worked on the details and I made all the cakes. The cakes were hand carved to look like vintage luggage pieces. The design showcased the Bride and Groom and their family. They travel all over the world and enjoy so many different countries what a perfect way to share their lives.

The cakes were Pink Champagne filled with Bavarian Cream, White Sour Cream filled with Strawberry preserves, Lemon Cake with Raspberry and Chocolate Cake filled with Chocolate Ganache. The cakes were covered in French Buttercream and Fondant. Hand Detailed. All of the 3D work was hand sculpted  from of Fondant and also features edible imaging.

Hot Summer Month's Cake Creations

Ok I just went out and saw an awesome Blog Site. I feel like a .... I don't know .... I just am not sure if I am any good at this Blogging stuff ... Blogging and all the new tools, Facebook, Twitter ... you know I LOVE LOVE LOVE my good ole Website. It is the Best and easiest for me to maintain my work. Anyway, enough of technology.
I have had busy busy summer months. Creating Wedding Cakes for clients to pickup and drive five hours away to setup themselves. Taking cakes my self all over the Northwest and gifting Wedding Cakes to dear friends this summer. I am very thankful to be busy and have exciting and creative work. Here are a few of my latest creations, one of my favorites is the Abram's Army Tank and the Jeep below ... then of course I love the RC Car that was a challenge in itself to create all the colors and scratches. I have created some purses and have had several beautiful wedding cakes ... fun kiddo birthday cakes oh and then there was Dalek, that was a fun cake too and on and on and on...

Working with cakes in the hot months is very challenging. You don't want your cake to melt and butter cream melts at 86 degrees that is if you are using real butter which I do. Other bakers out there love their shortening.... ehhhh not me. Only if the Client insists. Cakes are very soft, they don't hold up well in the heat at all, they like to collapse if you are not careful. You have to really have a good internal support system in your cakes so they don't go anywhere. I am so busy now with fun cakes I will post photos soon. Ok that's it for tonight. Enjoy!

Fun Cakes for the past 2 Months

I have been busy creating new cakes these past two months. I have just had a moment to sit down and Blog about a few of them. I was able to create a Dog for a surprise party, yep... my first Dog. I did a lot of praying, wasn't sure how he would turn out. I am very happy with this project. Then I was able to create a Jeep for another Birthday, throw in a few Weddings and just finished a Topsy Turvey Wanky Cake. I made a Viking Helmet for a Birthday this week and participated in three different fundraising events. I have been soooo busy. Thank you Lord!

It has been a wonderful learning experience. I love the creativity and am Blessed to be able to have an ability to recreate and come up with my own designs for cakes. I am excited to share my next projects with you in the next few months. Until then... Happy Cake Making to all.
